Glossary
coTURN
A TURN/STUN server that relays media when network configuration, such as a firewall or double NAT, blocks a direct peer-to-peer connection.
Data Channel
A WebRTC channel used to send arbitrary, non-media data over the same peer connection, alongside the audio and video tracks.
A Publisher supports at most one open data channel for writing.
Feed
An individual track or data channel flowing over a WebRTC connection.
Janus Gateway
The WebRTC SFU (Selective Forwarding Unit) that routes and broadcasts feeds between participants in a Stream Room.
Publisher
A single WebRTC peer connection that aggregates all of a participant's outgoing streams to a single Room.
Room
A Stream Room is the secure container that organizes the streams. Only members will read its encrypted metadata, publish streams, and subscribe to streams published by others.
Stream
A named container that groups tracks that belong together and play back in sync. In PrivMX, each WebRTC peer connection carries exactly one stream, so a connection and a stream map one-to-one.
Subscriber
A single WebRTC peer connection that aggregates all incoming streams a participant receives from a Room.
Track
A single media source within a stream: an audio, video, or desktop-capture track. Tracks are the smallest unit of media. You add and remove them individually.
